Art Project for the Week of May 25

What an end to this school year!
We got through it together, thank-you ALL for what you have done to keep art in your life.
Such talented students I have.
Beautiful ART.
Our last project of the year is to watch the Academy Award winning Animated movie for 2020 Toy Story IV with your family.
I saw this movie twice. It is a little sad, but a lot more funny.
Your only assignment is to enjoy this movie with your family.
Have a wonderful, fun-filled summer, be Healthy and Happy.

These are a few activities you may want to do If You Want:
                               Draw a favorite character from the movie.
                               Dress up as one of the characters.
                               Create a new character for the movie using one of your toys
                               Put on a skit or create a movie of your own. It could even be
                               a musical.
Send me a picture of what you decided to do.
Remember this is NOT a required activity.

Art Projects for the Week of May 18

Pre School
Paper Airplanes
Create a paper airplane.
Follow the directions on YouTube for a simple folded airplane.
On a small paper draw a person to be the passenger.
Color your plane with red, white, and blue.
Put stripes and stars on it.
Glue or just place the passenger in the plane.
Ready set, let it fly!
Did your passenger survive the flight?
Take a picture and send me.
 
Kindergarten Art
Paper Airplanes

1st Grade Art
Hand Tracing
Using a pencil, trace your hands across the paper 4 times.
Have the fingers of one hand overlap into the hand next to it.
Using crayons or paint,
Color the first hand red.
Color the second hand blue.
Where the fingers overlap into the red hand, color those purple.
Color the third hand yellow.
Where the fingers overlap into the blue hand, color those green.
Color the fourth hand red.
Where it overlaps into the yellow hand, color those orange.
This lesson is to show that primary colors red, blue and yellow, create the secondary colors purple, green and orange when mixed.

2nd Grade Art
Self Portrait
Draw or paint a picture of yourself doing something you like to do.
Include a background.
Use any means you would like to add color to the picture.
Take a photo and send it to me.
 
3rd Grade Art
Puzzle
On a piece of 6"x 9" card stock paper, or a large note card using crayons,
draw a picture of an animal, a design, a picture of buildings, really' anything you want to draw for your puzzle.
Color it in.
Turn the paper over to draw the puzzle piece shapes on, to be cut out.
Make the piece shapes interlocking, so the pieces can fit into each other.
Make your puzzle have 25-30 pieces.
Cut out the puzzle pieces and place into an envelope.
Draw your puzzle picture on the envelope with the number of pieces it has.
Give your puzzle to a family member to see if they can out it back together.
Send me a photo.
 
4th Grade Art
Paint the Flowers
Try to use realistic colors in your picture.
Use paint if you have it, otherwise crayons or colored pencils will do.
Use shades of color to add detail and dimension to your flowers.
Paint or color the vase if you desire.
Send me a photo.
 
5th Grade
Paint the Sun Design
Go over all pencil lines of your sun with a black crayon.
This acts as a dam so the colors will not run together as you paint.
If you are using crayons or colored pencils you do not need to use a black crayon over the pencil lines.
Using the color wheel choose a beginning color in the center of your sun.
As you move away from from the first color, begin following the color wheel to paint the next  part of your sun.
If you began painting with yellow, the next space you paint will be either yellow-orange, or yellow green.
Paint each space of your sun in the order of the color wheel one color touching the next color.
Use all 12 colors at least once.

6th Grade
3-D Form Shading
Shade a circle to become a sphere, a square to become a cube, and a triangle to become a pyramid.
On the internet look up how to shade 3-D forms.
Try drawing, then shading an egg shape.
Shading is great!    Have FUN!

7th Grade
Pop Art
Use bright colors to finish your Pop Art names.
Best if you can use markers or paints.
Add stars, stripes, bolts of lightning to make it POP even more.
Send me a photo.
 
8th Grade
Illuminated Initials
Use the three initials of your name to create a design.
My name is Katherine S. Dorich, my initials are KSD.
Place your last initial in the center of your design with your first initial to the right and you middle initial to the left of you last initial.
Mine would look like this' KDS.
Draw the middle letter larger than  the other two letters on either side.
That emphasizes that as your last name.
Use your favorite calligraphy style, draw your illuminated initials.
Draw a suitable  shape around your letters to complete the design.
Color as desired.

Art Projects for the Week of May 11

Pre-School 
 
Butterfly Drawing
Observe butterflies in your yard or online.
On a piece of paper draw as many as five butterflies.
Draw some really big ones, some small ones, have them flying in different directions.
Put stripes, spots, antennae, wings on the butterflies.
Color your butterflies with whatever media you wish.
 
Kindergarten Art
 
Highways, Bi-ways, Bridges, Tunnels, and Overpasses
One piece of paper serves as the ground.
Cut other papers and glue to the ground.
Have bridges sticking up over roads.
Create tunnels from cylinders attach to the ground.
Have overpasses that go over other overpasses.
Construct cars, trucks, people and trains to complete the project.
 
!st Grade Art
 
Flowers Under the Rainbow
On a sheet of paper draw a rainbow with spaces for 7 colors.
ROY G. BIV
Color red in the highest space of the rainbow arch
Then orange, then yellow, then green, blue, indigo and closest to the ground is violet.
If there is room on the paper put flowers under the rainbow.
Paint or use crayons to color.
 
2nd Grade Art
 
Create a Cake
Pretend you are a baker.
I want you to design a cake on paper for your next birthday, for Mother's Day, or even Ms. Rustik's wedding.
Make your cake unique, very colorful with flowers or candles.
Add color with whatever media you wish.
 
3rd Grade Art
 
Animal With a Border continued
Now you are to use paint, crayons, or markers,  or even colored pencils to complete  this project.
 
4th Grade Art
 
Vase of Flowers
On a sheet of paper draw  a vase of flowers on a table.
This could be a vase you have at home or a vase you imagine.
Fill the vase with at least six flowers.
Draw a variety of flowers.
Do not have the flowers standing straight up in a row, like soldiers.
Have some tall flowers, some short flowers, some bending over the vase flowers.
Make the flowers look life like and natural.
This is a two part project, save this for next week.
 
5th Grade Art
 
Sun Design
Draw a sun design on a piece of paper.
Look on the internet for sun designs.
A show on TV called Sunday Morning uses sun designs in the show. you might want to watch that show or look it up on the internet for the designs used there.
Make sure your sun design has at least 12 spaces in it.
This is a two week project, save your design for next week.
 
6th Grade Art
 
Three Part Shading
Divide a copy paper into three equal parts.
In the first section draw just Straight Lines.
In the middle section draw just Curved Lines.
In the third section draw both Curved and Straight Lines.
Using your pencil begin at the line with a heavy dark shade, pressing hard with the pencil.
As you move away from the line gradually press lighter on the pencil, so the shade gets lighter across the space until you come to the next line.
Blending the shades to prevent a stripe effect.
Repeat this shading with all the lines in all the spaces.
 
 
 
7th Grade Art
 
Pop Art Name
Look on the internet for Pop Art Names
Design your own name in the Pop Art technique.
Make your name look explosive.
Write your name or print it using bubble letters.
Use just a pencil to draw with.
Save this drawing for next week, this is a two part project.
 
8th Grade Art
 
Calligraphy
Look up calligraphy on the internet.
There are  three basic techniques of calligraphy.
Roman, Text, and Gothic
Choose 3 letters from each style and draw them.
You choose the letters you like the most.
A total of 9 letters are required.
If you have graph paper use that, making each letter about 1" tall.
Save the letters for next week, this is a two week project.

Art Work for Week of May 4, 2020

Pre K 
April Showers Bring May Flowers
 
This is an umbrella that turns into a flower by flipping the top up or down.
On one piece of paper draw then cut out a scalloped topped tulip, this will also be the umbrella.
Glue that to a strip of paper that will be the stem of the tulip and the pole for the umbrella.
To the bottom of the strip glue a hooked shape letter U, that will serve as the root for the tulip, and the handle for the umbrella.
When finished, the tulip will appear, when folded down the umbrella will appear.
 
Kindergarten Art
Daisy Flowers
Draw a circle on the paper.
Around the circle draw the petals.
Put a stem and leaves beneath.
Color with crayons or colored pencils or markers or paints.
Add insects.
 
First Grade Art
Worms
On a sheet of copy paper draw at least four worms.
Make them short and stubby, long and thin, wiggly, and overlapping.
Make an interesting funny picture.
Fill the bodies of the worms with beautiful colors and designs.
Using whatever color means you have, crayons, paint, markers.
 
Second Grade
Robots
Draw or construct a robot.
Use rectangles, squares, circles, triangles, the basic shapes for the body.
Add funnels, tubes, wheels or treads, knobs, antenna, as needed.
Color or paint with the marker, colored construction paper, or crayons.
Give your robot a name and a purpose.
 
Third Grade 
Animal in a Frame
Choose a favorite animal
Draw that animal in the center of the paper.
Leave a 1" space around your animal, as frame or border.
In the border create a pattern using two items that relate to your animal.
For example, a dog drawn in the center could have as a patterned border a dog bone and a ball. 
Those two items would be drawn in the border around the dog, dog bone ball, dog bone ball, dog bone, etc.
Save this drawing for next week.
This is a two week project.
 
Fourth Grade  
Paint the Koi, but Do Not Use the Colors Blue, Green, or Purple, save those colors for the water.
Using watercolor if you have some, paint the Koi.
If you have crayons color the fish.
Leave some of the fish White.
If you have paints I would like you to paint the space behind the fish with blues, greens and purples.
If you have paints, I would like you to sprinkle table salt on the wet paint as you paint the water
This creates an interesting texture to the water.
Be sure to put the salt on when the paper is wet, let it dry then brush it off.
 
Fifth Grade
Color Wheel
Draw a large circle on the paper.
Arrange 12 smaller circles evenly spaced around the large circle.
Start at the top paint or color Yellow.
Working around the circle to the right paint or color Yellow-orange
Then Orange
Red-Orange
Red
Red-Violet
Violet
Blue-Violet
Blue
Blue-Green
Green
Last     Yellow-Green
Save this color wheel for next week.
You will need this.
 
Sixth Grade
Insect Painting
Your insects are be be shaded using crayons or colored pencils.
Make your insects as colorful as you want.
Choose a section of insect to begin.
Choose a family of colors like light blue, blue and dark blue to color with.
Begin on a line on the insect's body with the darkest color.
As you move away from that line blend in the middle shade of color.
As you move to finish that area of coloring add the lightest shade.
Gradually shading dark to light.
I used black to darken my darkest color.
Continue like this for each body part on each insect.
Blending the colors.
Do Not Have Stripes of Shades.
 
Seventh Grade 
Using your figure drawing skills draw a super hero.
Could be a villain or a good guy, or girl.
Put his or her name on the composition.
Add color if desired.
 
Eighth Grade
Mask Painting.
Shading with watercolors.
Choose a favorite mask and enlarge it on a paper,
If you have watercolors use those if not colored pencils.
Choose a line to start coloring from with a dark shade of that color. 
Add black to that color.
As you move away from that space use just the shade of color without black.
As you move further away use more water so the color gets lighter.
Continue shading as you complete your mask.
If you use colored pencils, choose a family of shades.
Begin at a line as you move away from that line use lighter shades of your chosen color.
 
 
 
 

Art Work for April 27

Preschool Art
Popcorn Popping on The Apricot Tree
       On a sheet of paper draw a tree.
        Glue  popped corn on the branches of the tree to look like blossoms.
        Try not to get glue on your finger tips. This can be messy.
         If you do not have popcorn use paint or even bits of Kleenex tissue for               the blossoms.
         Take a picture and send it to me by Friday, May 1.
 
Kindergarten Art
Boing-Boing Bug
          A cross-folded spring serves as the bug's body.
         Two  cross folded papers are glued together to form a letter L shape.
         My papers were 2" x 18" long.
         Fold the bottom strip over the top strip, fold the bottom strip over the top
         strip, keep alternating the strips, one on top of the other, until the strips   
         end, forming a spring shape, this is the bug's body.
         Glue the top ends together.
          The bug's body can now be decorated with a head, eyes, proboscis,     
          antenna, wings, lots of legs, and a stinger.
          Add spots and stripes as needed.
          Take a picture and send it to me by Friday, May 1.
          I have taken a picture of my bug.
 
First Grade Art
          A Picture of a Robin
          One of the very first signs of spring is seeing a robin.
          See if you can see one in a tree or on the ground looking for a worm.
          I want you to take a white paper and draw a robin, large enough to fill 
          your paper space.
          Use crayons or paint or markers to color your robin.
          Take a picture of your robin and send it to me by May 1.
           I have taken a picture of my robin.
 
Second Grade Art
          A Puppet with Moving Parts
           Use a copy paper or any colored construction paper on which to draw                a person or animal.
           Cut off the body part, or parts you want to have move.
           Reattach those body parts back onto puppet's body with brass fasteners.
           On the back of the puppet tape a drinking straw to act as a handle for 
            you to use in order for the puppet to move.
            Make several different puppets and put on a puppet show.
            Take a picture of your puppet and send it to me by Friday, May 1.
             I have taken a picture of my puppets.
 
Third Grade Art
           Hand Puppet
           Watch the YouTube video by Mason Zizlou to create the main body of
            your puppet.
           I had a piece of 12"x18" inch paper that I folded into thirds.
           Then folded that in half and brought the two edges into the middle to 
           create the puppet's body.
            Add head extensions, eyes, nostrils, antenna, wings, and other 
            interesting details to your puppet.
            Take a picture of your puppet and send in to me by Friday, May 1.
             I have taken a picture of my puppet.
 
Fourth Grade Art
           Koi Fish
           Look up Koi fish on the internet. 
           I want you to draw one on white paper.
           Make the drawing as large as the paper, include ALL details of the fish's
           body, the fins, tail, gills, even the scales.
           Do not add color to this, just draw with a pencil.
           Save this drawing for next week, this is a two part project.
           Take a picture of your fish and send it to me by Friday, May 1.
           I have taken a picture of my fish.
 
   
Fifth Grade Art
         Shoe Houses
          From your shoe drawings, I want you to to create miniature houses for 
          little people or creatures.
          Add doors, windows, ladders, gardens, to your shoe houses to create a 
          a miniature neighborhood.
          Take a picture of your art and send it to me by Friday, May 1.
 
Sixth Grade Art
           Insect Drawing
           On a sheet of copy paper draw a variety of insects.
            Make them large enough that three will fill the paper space.
            Draw with great detail.
            Draw from a photo or from life.
            Just use a pencil to draw, this is a two part lesson, you will need this 
            for next week.
            Take a photo of your art and send it to me by Friday, May 1.
             I have a picture of my insects.
 
 Seventh Grade Art
            People Drawing
            Draw at least three people, fully clothed in three different poses.
            Have your family members pose for you, or look up your favorite movie              or TV character, or singer and draw them.
            Draw the people from head to toe.
            Take a picture of your art and send it to me by Friday, May 1.                 
 
 
Eighth Grade Art
           Mask Drawing
           Look up a variety of masks on the internet.
           Draw at least 4 different mask
                             African Masks
                             Mardi-Gras Masks
                             Japanese Masks
                             Halloween Masks
                             Masquerade Masks
                              Venetian Carnival Masks
             Lots to choose from, or better yet make up your own mask.
              Draw four on a piece of copy paper.
             Just use a pencil, this is a 2 part lesson, we will need the masks again 
              next week.
              Send me your drawings by Friday, May 1.

Art Work for Week of April 20

Earth Day Celebration Through Art
 
Earth Day began back in 1970, to demonstrate a world wide protection of our planet Earth. This year Earth Day is on Wednesday, April 22.
 
Be an Artist for Earth Day.
 
Here are a few ideas for you to do:
 
Take a walk around your yard gathering interesting things like, pine cones, leaves, twigs, grass, stones, etc. Create a collage
 
Create a poster for your home to remind your family to use reusable shopping bags, to turn off lights when they leave a room, power down computers when done, or not not litter.
 
Take a neighborhood walk and draw something beautiful you saw as you walked.
 
Create an art treasure from recyclable items like milk cartons, paper towel rolls, egg cartons.
 
Create your own "Forky" from Toy Story 4.
 
Take a look online at The Land of Art by Andy Goldsworthy and Nils-Udo and create something similar.
 
Take a picture of your creation and send it to me by April 24.

Art Work Week of April 6

In art this week it is all about the EGG.
Students in ALL grades are to use the egg or the egg shape as part of an art project.
Students can:     draw an egg
                           paint an egg
                           dye an egg
                           turn an egg into something other than an egg
                           invent an machine to peel or cook an egg
                           dress up an egg
                           invent a container to hold an egg safely when dropped
Be creative these are just some ideas.
 
I would like you to look at a YouTube video on Ukrainian Egg Decorating called
"Pysanky."
 
The main idea this week is to have fun with your family, hopefully, you can all get together and do something with an egg or two.
 
No due date for art this week.

Art for the Week of March 30

My Dear Students and Parents, 
     I did not think I could teach art remotely, but the beautiful posts you have sent me, show I guess I can. 
     I am carefully giving credit to all students who post.
     Art is important, I believe it to be more important now, than ever. It is a means to express one self.
     Please, let art continue to be part of your lives.
     I love seeing your art. Keep it coming. Give your art a title, put the date you completed it on the back, and save it. When we get back to school bring it in, we will share and talk about it.

PreK Art Week of March 30 
     Rabbit Ears Headband
     Construct a 2 inch wide band of paper that stretches around your child's head. Decorate the band with rabbits, eggs, crosses, other symbols of Easter. Use a crayons or markers.
       Cut out 2 rabbit ears from a second paper, and attach to the headband.
Use a cottonball for a rabbit's tail on the back of the headband.
        I did photograph a finished headband.
        This is due April 3.
 
 
K Art Week of March 30
     Cylinder Rabbit
     This is a 3-D project.
      Create a cylinder from a piece of copy paper. From a second paper cut out two rabbit ears, glue to the top of the cylindar.
      Create front paws and larger bottom feet from a second paper.
      Cut out the front paws and attach to the top of the cylinder and attach the back feet of the rabbit to the bottom of the cylindar.
       Add eyes, whiskers, and nose to the rabbit's face.
       Put a cotton ball on the back of the cylinder for a tail.
       Have the rabbit hold a basket of eggs or a carrot.
       I did photograph a finished cylinder rabbit.
       This is due April 3.
 
 
1st Grade Art Week of March 30
     Giant Easter Egg
     On a large sheet of paper draw a large egg.
      Using crayons or markers draw various shapes, patterns, and designs from one side of the egg to the other.
      Make it colorful. No white paper showing.
      Cut the egg out, and display it.
      This is due April 3.
 
 
2nd Grade Art Week of March 30
     What else can hatch from and egg?
     Draw an egg on a piece of copy paper.
     Decorate the egg with various designs and colors.
     Cut the egg in half creating a broken egg.  Use a brass fastener to create a hinge for the egg to open and close.
      Inside your egg place the head of an animal that would hatch from an egg. 
It could be a chicken, a turtle, a dinosaur. 
      Be creative. I can't wait to see what is hatching from your egg!
      This is due April 3.
 
 
3rd Grade Art Week of March 30
      Rabbit Village
      Draw what an underground rabbit village would look like.
       Include tunnels and burrows with places for rabbits to eat, to play, to sleep.
       Have entrances and exits.
       Have bunnies playing in the grass above the village.
       This is due April 3.
 
4th Grade Art Week of March 30
       Stain Glass Cross
        On a sheet of copy paper draw a cross on a hill. 
         Cut both out and trace on a second paper.
         Leaving the cross white, use a black crayon to create stain glass window lines behind the cross. 
       Use crayons or markers to color in  those spaces.
       Do not color in the cross leave that white.
       When I colored mine I saved the shades of brown crayon to color in the hill.
       I did photograph a finished cross on a hill.

      Crosses
       Draw and design several crosses.

6th Grade Art Week of March 30
      Cathedrals
      From a photograph draw a church, cathedral, or temple on a sheet of copy paper.
       Use a pencil and fill the space.
       This is due April 3.
 
7th Grade Art Week of March 30
       Knights
       Look up  knights on the computer.
       Find one to conqueror your dragon.
       Draw a complete suit of armor, include shield and sword.
       Fill a copy size paper with your drawing.
       This is due April 3.
 
8th Grade Art Week of March 30
       Hand Drawing
       On a sheet of copy paper draw 3 different hand poses.
       Rest your none drawing hand on a table using a pencil and copy paper draw your hand 1. Holding something
                          2. In a tight fist
                          3. Just relaxed.
        Do Not Trace Your Hand. Draw.
         This is due April 3.

Week of March 23

Grade 5
    Continue your collage.
    Collect three shoes from around your house. Arrange them on a table, using a pencil draw in detail the shoes.
 
Grade 6
    Continue drawing bottle.
     Choose a photograph of an insect enlarge it on computer paper so it fills the space.  Draw the insect as realistically as you can. Just use a pencil.
 
Grade 7
    Choose your favorite dragon and enlarge it on an 12x18 inch paper, so it fills the space.
  
Grade 8
    Put your people in a setting, dancing, walking, shopping, add other people, or animals. Add detail, using a pencil or colored pencil to shade or color. 

Week of March 23

Kindergarten
   Draw five green stems across the bottom of the paper. Draw at the top of the stems, five flowers add leaves and bugs to the picture. The flowers  can be daisy shaped, tulip shaped, imaginary shaped, then color or paint the picture.
 
Grade 1
    I want you to draw a tree from the dirt to the top on a white sheet of paper. Really look at the shape of the trunk, the branches, how they get smaller as they grow out from the trunk. Draw birds on the tree, creating a Spring Bird Tree. Color with crayons or paint with paints.
 
Grade 2
    Choose your favorite African animal and create a mask of its head from cut out pieces of paper. Don't forget ears, horns, trunk, eyes. nostrils, the details, you could put something in the animal's mouth as if it were eating.
 
Grade 3
    I was not able to catch a leprechaun last week, maybe you were. I want you to draw or construct a trap to catch a leprechaun. Draw the trap on white paper, or use items found around your house to create the trap.
   Write a four sentence paragraph describing how your trap works and what did you use a bait.
 
Grade 4
    Draw your puppet head with the costume you would like it to have. Then write a back story about your puppet. What is its' name?  Where does it live? Who are its' friends? 
    Write two or three paragraphs about your puppet.
 
 
   
 

Week of March 23, 2020

Pre K
 
    Circles are generally difficult to cut out. Have your student draw five circles on paper, color or paint the circles, then cut them out.
     Glue the circles together, slightly overlapping to form a Very Hungry caterpillar.
      Add legs, face and antenna.

Mar. 13,2020

These are the art activities for this week. 
  
PreK
Using a pencil, draw  basic shapes,  on a piece of paper to create 6 lines of different combinations of patterns across the page.
circle, square, circle, square, triangle, square, triangle etc. 
Use crayons to color those shapes in patterns of color.
 
Grade K
Use a pencil to draw four cats in different positions sitting, standing, laying down, stretching. Use basic shapes, add details like ears, whiskers, spots, tail.
When finished color with crayons or paint.
 
Grade 1
Create a city scape with basic shapes, using paper, scissors, glue. Cut various colors of papers, or use paper from newspapers and magazines.
Something you could do at home if you want to: we did rubbings in class, see if you have items in your home that you could use as a rubbing thing with texture.
 
Grade 2
Draw four animals in detail that live in Africa. Use a pencil to draw then color with crayons or colored pencils.
We created stamps from clay, see if you have items in your home you could stamp with, like cardboard tubes, maybe a fork. This is not required.
 
Grade 3
 Draw a diamond shape kite. Divide that kite into 4 equal parts in which you will draw 4 things special to you. In one part put your family, in another your pets, in another your friends, etc. 
When finished color with crayons or colored pencils. Add a kite tail of your creation.
 
Grade 4
Draw, then paint or color spring trees and the plants coming up from the ground at this time of year. 
You know how to make a puppet, if you have a ballon, flour and water create a puppet friend for your puppet at school. This is something you may want to do as a fun at home project. It is not required.
 
Grade 5
With magazine clipping, create a fantasy collage. 
This may take two weeks.
 
Grade 6
Using various sizes and shapes of bottles, glassware, and vases create a still life. Emphasis on symmetry. Use colored pencils to create designs on your bottles. Draw at least 6 bottles.
This may take two weeks.
 
Grade 7
Draw 4 dragons. Include tail, wings, scales,fangs horns, claws, flames, etc. add at least 5 texture designs to each dragon with colored pencils.
This may take two weeks.
 
Grade 8
From a magazine or computer draw the figure of a fully clothed man and woman in a standing position. Shade the figure with pencil.
 
 
Please have fun with these art projects. I give my students time in class to finish the task, but if they do not finish, they work on the project the following week. My classes are 45 minutes long.  
If you could do art for 20 minutes a week that would be great.
