About Ms. Ohashi

My hope is that all students learn, grow, and have fun in a positive, safe, and supportive classroom community. This year, students will engage in meaningful conversations, create exciting projects, and share their unique opinions and talents with their peers. Please get in touch if you have any questions!

Tell us about yourself:

Hi all! My name is Ms. Madison Ohashi! Home for me is on the beautiful island of O'ahu, in the state of Hawaii, where I grew up. For my undergraduate degree, I attended the University of Portland in Portland, Oregon, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. I am currently a participant in the University of Portland's Pacific Alliance for Catholic Education (PACE) program pursuing my Masters of Education degree with a Reading Intervention endorsement.

I am so excited to be teaching 3rd grade here at Saint Olaf Catholic School! I look forward to watching each student flourish in their education and spirituality.

If you could have lunch with 1 person dead or alive, who would that be and why?
I would love to have lunch with my grandfathers who died when I was growing up. I am very interested in learning about their childhood and getting to understand the person they were.
What is something on your Bucket List?
I would love to travel to new places including New York and Europe!
What book have you read that changed you and why?
The book, Wonder, has inspired me to become a better teacher. This story reminded me how important it is to teach kindness and empathy to my students.
What is your favorite thing about teaching or working with young people?
I love working with young people, because they are inspiring, curious, loving, and so much fun! Teaching is a career that is very rewarding and I'm so excited to help students learn and discover their passions.
How would a friend describe you in three words?
Helpful, optimistic, and trustworthy.
If you had to compare yourself to one fictional character, who would it be?
Piglet from Winnie the Pooh. This is because I get nervous and anxious in new situations, but when it comes to being a good friend, I am super loyal.
What is the best BAD decision you ever made?
Having made a commitment for a spot on a cheer team, I chose to go on a class trip to China during summer training. At the time, this seemed like the wrong choice, but I had made lasting memories and life time friends that would not have been possible without that decision.
When are you most yourself?
I am the most myself when I am surrounded by the people I love. Being at home in the sun is when I'm the happiest.
What could you spend all day talking about?
I could spend all day talking about my travel experiences. I have fond memories from my trips to China, Japan, Australia, Canada, and Disneyland. I am always interested in learning about past experiences and new places from others.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
I love decompressing by watching Netflix or YouTube, doing yoga, or doing things outdoors like going hiking and swimming!
