About Ms. Ginter

GETTING TO KNOW MS. GINTER:

Tell us about yourself:
My name is Catherine (Cathy) Ginter. I am so happy to be joining the wonderful, dedicated staff at St. Olaf’s Catholic School.   I am a theatre-loving, outdoorsy, enthusiastic, Southern California native who discovered her love for helping students become more effective and empowered communicators. I have worked as a school-based speech and language pathologist for 17+ years in the Los Angeles Area and now in Utah. It has been truly rewarding and joyful work.  Last July, my family and I relocated here to Davis County and have fully embraced the beauty and kindness that Utah possesses. My hope is that I can bring my experience and passion in speech/language development into this amazing and loving community.

If you could have lunch with 1 person dead or alive, who would that be and why?
My grandfather Frank. He was the most accepting, gentle and positive influences in my young life. I would love to talk to him and get advice about all life’s joys and trials.
What is something on your Bucket List?
Learn to speak Spanish!
What is your favorite thing about teaching or working with young people?
My favorite thing about working with young learners is witnessing their reactions when they accomplish something that was once a challenge. I love celebrating student’s success!
How would a friend describe you in three words?
Thoughtful, Genuine, Passionate
If you had to compare yourself to one fictional character, who would it be?
Belle,  Beauty and the Beast. I consider myself a strong and independent individual who loves her family deeply and would do anything for them.  I also relate to Belle’s non-judgmental, patient and kind nature.
What is the best BAD decision you ever made?
At the time, I thought that taking my mother’s advice and attending an all women’s Catholic College in South Bend, Indiana, 1800 miles away from home was the worst idea ever.  It ended up being one of the best experiences of my life. I was able to double major, study abroad in Italy, make some of the most incredible lifelong friends and grow in more ways than I ever could have imagined. Thanks for the nudge, Mom.
When are you most yourself?
I feel most alive and authentic when I’m simply hanging out with my closest friends and family.
What could you spend all day talking about?
I am a proud mama and find myself talking about my kid a lot, including all the challenges and joys of parenthood.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
In my free time, I love to be out in nature. My family really enjoys hiking, fishing and camping.
