Parents,

Thank you so much for an awesome school year! Both you, the parents, and your children have made this such a wonderful year.  I think, after almost 20 years of teaching, that this little group has been my favorite class. :)

Have a wonderful and blessed summer,
Lisa Barrington

April 17

I hope you all have a blessed Easter weekend.

Next week we will be back to a normal schedule, with a spelling test and regular math homework.

April 12

Our readers for Mass today did a wonderful job.  If your child chose to read, thank you for practicing with them!

The students have a homework assignment for this weekend.  They need to write down their favorite bible verse including which bible they copied the verse from --  ie The New American Bible, the King James Bible, etc.  They also need to include which chapter and verse.  For example, Mark 12:30.  This needs to be turned in Monday.  It is for the auction project.  A few students have already turned his or hers in.  I will give the students some time today to find theirs.

I will be updating grades this weekend.  Some students do have missing work.  I'll give those students who are a missing work a missing assignment sheet and a chance to get caught up.

We will have spelling words and assignments next week, but because of the short week, I won't give a test.

Have a wonderful weekend!

There are a few things that you, as parents, can do to help your child be successful.
1.  Please make sure your child is at school and on time
2.  Please make sure your child gets a good night's rest the night before.
3.  Please make sure your child eats breakfast in the morning.
4.  Encourage your child to do his/her best.

Thank you,
Ms. Barrington

March 27

There will not be math homework tonight. We are starting a new chapter — line plots and graphing. I want to take another day to complete the first lesson as about half of the class aren’t confident enough yet to be sucessful with the homework.

I am looking forward to seeing you all at SEP conferences!

Feb. 22

I will be passing out the final materials handouts for the book report next week.  Don't forget the book reports are due Monday, March 18.  Some of the students have been sharing what they have been reading with me.

We will be having a spelling test next Friday.  Please make sure your student is studying his/her words every night -- it is part of their homework.

Have a wonderful weekend!
Ms. Barrington

Feb. 15

Don't forget there is no school on Monday.  Tuesday is the 4th -- 8th grade ski trip.

Due to the shorter week next week, we will NOT be having spelling words for next week.

Please make sure your student is reading a chapter book for his/her book reports.  I previously had the reports due on March 15.  However, looking at the school calendar, we are out for spring break that week.  The new due date will be March 18.  I will send the final project materials home next week. Please remember not to throw away the first copy -- they are due with the folder and final projects.

Thank you,
Ms. Barrington

Feb. 13

Don't forget the Valentine's Day party tomorrow!

The students took home a file folder and first draft copies for a book report.  We went over the packet as a class.  The report will be due a month from Friday -- March 15.  Please do not throw away the first draft -- it's part of their final grade.  I will send home the final copy instructions and packet next week.  Please make sure your student is reading a book on his/her reading ability and that he/she does not put off the project until the last minute. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me.

In math, we are still on adding and subtracting decimals.  Please remember, on the homework pages, if the answer is a fraction, it needs to be reduced to lowest terms.

We are in need of pink pearl erasers. If you could donate a box, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Ms. Barrington

Week of Feb. 4

Good morning!

I apologize for not posting for the past few weeks.

This week in math we are still working on adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.  If all goes well, I am planning on a test in two weeks.

Spelling tests are on Fridays.  I give the students two copies of their spelling words on Mondays, but I have noticed that some of the students are not taking home the extra list to study at home.  Please make sure your student is studying his/her words every night.  I've also noticed that some students are not finishing or turning in his/her spelling work.  I give the students their assignments on Monday.  They have until Friday to get his/her work finished and turned in.

In science, the students are finishing up a constellation slide presentation, and in social studies we are finishing up Civil Rights presentations and are starting acts leading to the Revolution presentations.

I will be putting grades into Renweb this week.

I want to thank you all for the planter filled with Diet Coke, and a Barnes and Noble gift card.  I'll be using the gift card on much needed books for the class library.

Thank you,
Ms. Barrington

Jan. 14

Good morning!

We will be having a math test this week.  It most likely will be on Wednesday and we will finish on Thursday.  The test will be dividing decimals.  Today and tomorrow we will be working on a math review.  The students will be allowed to use their math books.

Spelling lists will be sent home for the week.

Thank you,
Ms. Barrington

January 11, 2019

Welcome back from Christmas vacation!  We welcomed a new student this week and are so happy he has joined our class!

If anyone can donate pencils, that would be wonderful.  The students pencil supplies are getting low.  Just the yellow, number 2 pencils will work.

Thank you,
Ms. Barrington

December 14, part 2

I forgot to add a few more items...
We will not be having a spelling test next week.  They will, however, be required to complete (during class) spelling assignments.  We will also not have math homework (possibly on Monday there will be homework --  I will see how well the students do the assignment during class).  We are continuing dividing decimals.

Ugly sweater day will be on Monday.  The students can wear jeans instead of uniform pants

Tuesday...Spirit night at Zuppa's from 5:00 -- 9:00 pm

Friday....no recess or lunch

Friday, December 14

Happy Friday!

Remember, 5th grade is hosting Mass on December 21.  The bishop will be presiding over the Mass.  If your child is reading for Mass, I sent home a copy of his/her part(s) to read.  Please make sure they practice for 10-15 minutes every day.  The Christmas program will be at 11:00.  There will also be no EDP that afternoon.

Dec. 7

Most of the students did well on Chapter 4's math test.  It was a difficult test, and I'm very proud of how well they all did.

Our next chapter in math will be dividing decimals.  It should take us right until Christmas break -- if it takes us longer, we will review when we come back from break, and have our test the next week.

Fifth grade will be hosting Mass on December 21.  The Bishop will be presiding over the Mass.  Our Christmas program will also be that day.

Have a great day.
Ms. Barrington
