Books must be at least 100 pages to count for this challenge. If a book is less than 100 pages or substantially below the student’s reading level, we have classified the book as a “quick read” book. When finished with a book, add it to your BiblioNasium account. You can see what genre the book fits under by looking up the book on BiblioNasium, Amazon or Scholastic. Page numbers can also be found on Amazon. BiblioNasium Logins can be found in student planners.

Movie Poster Board Project

Dear Parents,

Students will be creating a Movie Poster based off of a book they are reading or have finished for the Reading Challenge. Pretend that the book is going to be made into a movie. Create a movie poster to promote the movie.

The Details

•Use a large piece of poster board for your poster.

(Dimensions are about 22 x 28 in)

•Your poster should include the following elements:
oThe title of the book in large letters and the author of the book.
oInclude a picture of an important scene from the book (Do not copy the front cover of the book. The pictures can be hand drawn or can be from a magazine or the internet.)
oA brief summary of the book, that will make people want to see the movie, but does not give too much away. Complete the Plot Line Summary Organizer and then turn it into a 5 to 8 sentence summary paragraph. (Be sure to include the beginning, middle and end of the story.)
oInclude the names of the actors that will play the main characters. (You can use real actors or you can make up names.)
oCreate 4 to 5 comments from critics, these can be made up. (Since they are quotes from people, please include quotation marks.) Example: Ms.Allensaid, “This is the best book report ever!”
oYou can write directly on the poster or type the elements out on the computer and cut them out and glue them on the poster board.
oUse bright colors and be creative!

Hall of Hero's

This year we will be doing our Hall of Heros, it was a great tribute last year!  Please send in pictures, so that we can put them up to honor all our wonderful people who serve or have served in the military.

Pumpkin book reports were a huge success! I am so proud with all the hard work and creativity that my students put into their character pumpkins. I posted more pictures on Class Dojo, so please take a look. This week has been a great week!
On Wednesday, students reviewed multiplication, addition, place value, and arrays with Skittles. Everything is more fun when using candy! They did a great job and worked hard with their team members. They learned how to check over each others answers and to communicate with each other.

Spelling Homework

The spelling homework looks a bit different this week, but students still need to choose just 4 ways to practice their spelling words. I have included seven activities, but only 4 need to be completed. Parents, you do not need to sign the packet, unless you would like to. Also, I have included a Cross Word Puzzle sheet. Students do not have to do that activity, I just included it in case any student wanted to do it. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the homework this week.

I just wanted to send a reminder that the Pumpkin Book Report Projects are due tomorrow! Please have students bring their book, pumpkin character, and book packet tomorrow. If students know that I have the book they may use my copy. Thanks so much, I can't wait to see everyone's project! I was challenged by my students to make a pumpkin based off of one of the books that I have read, so I made Petey from Dog Man.
