Exciting news... We have Pen Pals

I just wanted to share in case students have not told you yet, we have Pen Pals. I have connected with another 4th grade teacher in Riley, Kansas. Mrs.Kulp has 15 students in her 4th grade class. Students have been working hard to get their final drafts completed, so that I can send them tomorrow. We have been using our Step Up To Writing Program to create a graphic organizer and then made a rough draft letter. Students have been learning how to peer edit each others writing. It has been a great learning experience for students!

In Religion this week, we have been discussing God and all the amazing things that he has created. Students learned about a work of art called "The Creation" by Lucas Cranach the Elder, they then created their own version. Each student drew God and then created something in the picture that was special to them. They all did a great job!
Today, in Science students were engineers and they created their first prototype of a hearing enhancing device. It was amazing to see them working as a team and make modifications to their devices.
Hi Parents!

I will be giving students their user name and password for Think Central (Go Math) on Monday. The label can be found in their planner. I know sometimes students forget their math books, so this is a way to still have them do it. Also, another great feature of Think Central is they include helpful videos for each math lesson. I have found that Think Central does not have an easy way to print the homework, so what has worked best is to screen shot the front and back of the homework to print or have the student copy the answers on paper. If you find a better way to print please let me know! See instructions on how to login below, please email me if you have any questions or comments.

  • I have included a screen shot of what the login screen looks like.
  • Here are some instructions on how to make logging in easier.

1. Go to:

2. Fill out login page:

Country- United States
State- Utah
District- Catholic School
School- St.Olaf
Username- (Username and password can be found in student planner is labeled Think Central)
Password-

3. Then click on "My Library"

4. This will take you to a page with a bunch of resources. Click "Go Math! Student Edition E-Book, G4."

5. The book should open and you can select what chapter and lesson under the "Contents."

Today, we discussed how we can care for God's creation. One question that was asked of students was: "Name a job you would like to have in which you help care for the environment. Write why this job would help care for God's creation."
Some answers were:
  • I would be a doctor and cure cancer.
  • I want to be a vet because I want to help God's animals.
  • A teacher to teach people how to take care of the Earth.
  • President, so I can help the world.
  • Zoo keeper because it helps all kinds of animals.
  • I want to be a cop and make sure people are following the law.

This week, we worked on team building because it is so important for students to learn how to work with others. Students were given the task of building the tallest tower with marshmallows and spaghetti noodles. The tower needed to be able to stand without support and students did great. The tallest tower was 14 inches, great work by everyone! They all worked as a team and worked on encouraging others. I have enjoyed watching them this week persevering and using kind words to build each other up.
